Even though it’s been flying over our heads for millions of years, our moon’s beauty is often missed.

We often take for granted that another world is looming over us. Yes, it’s desolate, crater filled landscape and not the most scenic place in the universe, but our naked eyes can be deceiving.

No matter how times I take pictures of the moon, I’m always in awe when I look at the photos. Not because they’re anything special, but because I’m seeing a different perspective of something anyone can see, but probably won’t.

When you view the moon magnified with a telescope or a camera, it totally changes your perception. Rather than just being something bright in the sky, the moon transforms into something real.

It transforms into something beautiful and mysterious.

What I see in my photos is always there, but it’s not obvious to see. It never changes, but it’s always different. How is it something so blatantly obvious in our everyday lives is so easily overlooked? The moon isn’t something magical only I can see, but a fair majority of the population probably doesn’t give the moon a second thought, never mind zooming in for a closer look.

Maybe they don’t care, maybe they don’t appreciate beauty, but the different perspective I experience is always there for anyone to see (unless it’s cloudy, I guess).

It’s sort of a metaphor for life – Everyone sees things differently even though we’re all looking at the same thing.

I don’t consider myself to be a professional photographer, nor do I have a big fancy camera. I only have a mid range, store bought Nikon digital and a desire to look at something many of us fail to see.

I see the beauty that is right front of us…

Looking at the moon is humbling. It’s so close, yet so far away. While some in our lifetime may go there, chances are, I won’t, and neither will you. I’ll probably never run and jump on the moon like I always wanted to as a kid, but I can feel like it at least.

When I zoom in my camera and get a good shot, I feel like I accomplished something.

I feel like I was there.

I may be stuck on Earth, but the feelings I feel take me off the planet. Even though anyone can see what I see, at that moment in time I feel like I’m the only one in the universe who can see it.

That’s pretty cool.
